At this time global warming is a reality and everybody is aware about that.
But do you know some country doesn't want to contribute to the earth future and doesn't want to observe the Kyoto protocol.
So instead of reduce the CO2 pollution, this country want to promote most and most CO2 production by using coal in the power stations.
We will give you our personnal opinion about that and start by the beginnig, the coal story in power stations. The use of coal in the power stations is very important; these power stations provide 40% of the world production of electricity, half in the United States and in Germany. In 2003, the People's Republic of China produced 79% of its electricity starting from coal. Regarded as exceeded a long time, the interest of coal returns when the energy needs reach the maximum capacities of production of oil or natural gas, increasing their cost.
At the time, the United States of America had built only one handle of new power stations to coal during the Nineties, the electric companies preferring to build power stations with gas. Now that the price of gas increases and becomes extremely unstable, because of the decline of the American production, a hundred new power stations with coal are in project, for a total from some 60 gigawatts, over the period 2005-2013.
It is however little in comparison with China, which envisages to add approximately 70 new power stations with coal for every year.
Of course, the use of coal, in particular in the power stations, made and continuous make enormous progress as regards reduction of the emissions of pollutants such as sulphur, oxides of nitrogen and the fine particles. On the other hand nothing or almost changed as regards dangerous gas emission.
So a current power station with coal emits appreciably less CO2 per kilowatt-hour produces than old (because of the best output) but twice as much as one power station with gas.
The return of coal will be a disaster as regards climatic reheating.
The sequestration of CO2 seems an interesting solution, but it will not be available on a large scale before many years.
So keep the pressure on US administration !
